There’s been an increased demand for Green Burials in recent years and we’re pleased to say that we’re able to offer a full service in line with these expectations.
Dealing with the death of a loved one can be one of the most difficult things to do in life … it’s never easy.
At Ugalde & Son we understand this situation better than anyone. Our family have been organising funerals in South East Cornwall since 1887. We have the experience to know what needs to be done and we look after every detail with professionalism and compassion.
Everyone is different which is why no two funerals are the same. We listen to you the family and above everything else we pride ourselves on delivering what you want in a funeral and not what we think you might want.
Treating every funeral as if it were a member of our own family
We’re not a corporate company, we are an independent family business that have only ever worked in and around South East Cornwall.
We believe that it’s our job to help you through what can be a very difficult time but it’s also important to remember that a funeral, done well, can be very much part of the grieving and healing process.
Our late father Trelawney Ugalde, had a phrase that he used every day … ‘treat every funeral as if it were a member of your own family’. Those words are what the Ugalde & Son business is built on today because they’re at the very heart of everything we do.
This family run funeral directors have a personal approach that larger companies fail to offer. I recommend Ugalde and Son without reservation. When my father died suddenly a few years ago, a good friend recommended Ugalde and Son to handle the funeral. From start to finish, Bryan, Clyve and their team managed every aspect of the funeral with sensitivity, understanding and professionalism. Bryan was always available to answer any questions I had, offering invaluable advice and support to me and my family during this tragic time.
Can’t thank you enough for all you have done, you’ve been brilliant, my brother and I have not had to worry about a thing because you have been there for us all the way. You have a way with people who have just lost loved ones, that no-one else could ever stand up to, you and your team run a very professional business, making sure everything runs smoothly and dotting all the i’s and crossing all the t’s, leaving no stone unturned ! We are so pleased with everything.
My first experience of having to arrange a funeral was for my mother, who died at home with my dad, my son and myself. She had been losing her fight with dementia for many years, but ultimately was taken from us by cancer. From the first phone call to say mum had passed away, to the funeral service itself, Ugalde & Son were there to support and guide us every step of the way with empathy, care and compassion.Bryan was so friendly and supportive; friendly and laid back, but efficient and professional at all times. He was fantastic with my dad who was really struggling to deal with mum’s passing. They had been married for 52 years, and Dad had been her full time housebound carer for the past few years. As it happened, we only visited mum at the chapel of rest once in the end, but Bryan made it clear that dad could visit every day that he wanted to up to the funeral service. Nothing was too much trouble, and help and advice was abundant and instant whenever we needed it.Ugalde and Son collected the death certificate and talked us through the process for our visit to the Registry Office. Bryan helped us with everything from finding a celebrant, to arranging flowers and orders of service. We are all very grateful to them.Everything went like clockwork on the day of the service and Bryan could not have done more to help us; he attended the crematorium himself and was there to take the burden of any worries from us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.My family and I could not have asked for a better experience despite it being such a sad occasion, and would not hesitate to recommend Bryan, Clyve and their team to anyone needing their services.Steve Roberts, Menheniot.
When my Mum died in April 2015 we did not know who to use for her funeral but after various recommendations we contacted Ugalde & Son Funeral Directors in Liskeard. From the very first telephone call to Bryan at Ugaldes it was clear this was an excellent Funeral Directors. Their compassion, kindness and understanding was exemplary, nothing was too much trouble. We were kept informed every step of the way about what would happen and when, which was such a massive help to me as I had not arranged a funeral before let alone one for someone so close to me. I cannot stress enough how lovely this company was to work with and how professional they are without losing their compassion and understanding. I cannot thank them enough for the help and support they provided for myself and my family in such sad and difficult circumstances.
I wondered how I would ever cope when my wonderful husband passed away. I knew I had to make arrangements for his funeral , but my grief scrambled my brain. Bryan and Clyve were so kind, patient and caring and talked me through everything . I couldn’t have wished for a more fitting send off for a much loved man . Thank you for your truly personal touch, your father would be so proud.

Ugalde & Son took a lot of the weight from my shoulders and made this painful process as smooth as it could possibly be. The help and support of Bryan and the family during this distressing time has been deeply appreciated by my daughter and myself. Two years ago I organised my fathers funeral (in the Midlands) which was a pre paid funeral, therefore most decisions had already been made. I found organising dad’s funeral arduous and far more stressful than my husband Geoff’s where everything had to be arranged.
Theloss of a beautiful daughter was a devastating blow to a close knit family, so that the impeccable service which you provided for her has been very much appreciated by us, as covering every arrangement for her funeral with absolute concern and efficiency. I am sure that your service is unrivalled anywhere. May I add how greatly valued the friendly and sympathetic attention which you personally showed to us throughout our sad time. With gratitude on behalf of the family.
‘Unfortunately my wife and I lost our baby girl through a late miscarriage. Rather than having a hospital arranged service we decided that we would prefer to organise our own private funeral. Having spoken to Bryan and Clyve on the phone we appointed them to help us and straight away they couldn’t have done more to help. We were given so much choice to make the whole process as personal to us as we wanted but at no point did we feel overwhelmed. What really helped was how much they cared. Thank you so much for all you have done for us.’
Ugalde & Son dealt with the funeral of a very precious husband and father in a dignified way but the care and compassion they showed us as a family was above and beyond anything we could have expected. Nothing was too much trouble.
